I had a Tammy doll, too, Kathy! I designed and hand-sewed outfits for her and for my fake Barbies. I remember once I was sewing and picked up my glasses to put them on — with the needle in the same hand. I actually stabbed myself in the eye!
Later in high school I took Home Ec and started sewing my own clothes. I stopped when my sewing machine started acting up.
When my daughter decided she wanted to cloth diaper her first baby, I borrowed a sewing machine and made cute diapers for her first 4 kids (after that, she used disposables because the family laundry load was getting too big). By then my family had bought me a sewing machine and later a serger. I made clothes for all my grandkids and assorted items (bags, hats, quilts…) for our church bazaar.
I got into sewing doll clothes after my daughter asked me to make some for her daughter’s friend’s birthday gift. So much fun! That was a couple of years ago, and since then I’ve acquired a computer full of patterns. Now my bazaar contribution is a table of doll clothes and accessories.
