This digital doll clothes pattern will let you sew a dress and skirt for a Mori Girl outfit or make a stylish every day dress to fit 14-14 ½ inch dolls such as WellieWishers™ and Hearts for Hearts Girls®.

If you see a girl that looks as though she is a fairy tale forest dweller who has just stepped out of an enchanted wood, chances are good you’ve spotted a Mori Girl.  Born in Japan as a subculture, Mori Girl style embodies living in the moment and living in harmony with nature.

Mori (meaning forest) Girl style is all about natural fibres and colours from nature – creams, browns, greens and autumnal oranges, reds and yellows.  The style also favours a lot of layering.  This dress can be used as a ‘foundation layer’ for Mori Girl style, but also works as a cute, everyday dress.

You can choose to line your dress or make it with facings.  The lined version can be made as a reversible dress.  Two looks in one!

Supplies:

Skirt:

  • 9 inches by 4 3/8 inches of light weight cotton or blends for the skirt body
  • 1 ¼ inches by 26-30 inches of soft mesh or lace fabric for the skirt ruffle. Note that tulle will not work.  Longer strips will provide more fullness, which is why a range of lengths is specified.
  • 9 inches of lace or other trim to go over top of the ruffle. Trim should be minimum ½ inch wide and maximum 1 inch wide.
  • 6 ½ inches of ¼ inch wide elastic

Reversible Option:

  • 13 inches by 8 ¼ inches of lightweight cotton/blends* as a main fabric
  • 13 inches by 8 ¼ inches of lightweight cotton/blends* as a lining or second main fabric (if making a reversible dress)
  • 7 ¼ inches by 3 inches of lightweight complementary cotton/blends for the Collar
  • Optional – 7 inches by 2 ½ inches of lightweight fusible interfacing
  • 6 ½ inches of hook and loop tape that is 3/8 inch wide OR 5 sets of sew in snaps
  • Optional – 56 inches of ½ inch, single fold bias tape or two self-cut bias strips 28 inches by ½ inch*
  • Optional – 13 ¼ inches of ½ inch wide lace to add to the hem
  • Optional – embellishments such as fabric flowers, wooden charms etc.

*Note: If you are making the dress as base layer for a Mori Girl outfit, choose earthy colours.

Faced Option:

  • 13 inches by 8 ¼ inches of lightweight cotton/blends* as a main fabric
  • 8 inches by 6 ¼ inches of lightweight cotton/blends for facing
  • 7 ¼ inches by 3 inches of lightweight complementary cotton/blends for the Collar
  • Optional – 7 inches by 2 ½ of lightweight fusible interfacing
  • 6 ½ inches of hook and loop tape that is 3/8 inch wide OR 5 sets of sew in snaps
  • Optional – 56 inches of ½ inch, single fold bias tape or two self-cut bias strips 28 inches by ½ inch*
  • Optional – 13 ¼ inches of ½ inch wide lace to add to the hem

*Note: If you are making the dress as base layer for a Mori Girl outfit, choose earthy colours.
