This digital doll clothes pattern will let you sew a dress and skirt for a Mori Girl outfit or make a stylish every day dress for your 18 inch doll.

If you see a girl that looks as though she is a fairy tale forest dweller who has just stepped out of an enchanted wood, chances are good you’ve spotted a Mori Girl.  Born in Japan as a subculture, Mori Girl style embodies living in the moment and living in harmony with nature.

Mori (meaning forest) Girl style is all about natural fibres and colours from nature – creams, browns, greens and autumnal oranges, reds and yellows.  The style also favours a lot of layering.  This dress can be used as a ‘foundation layer’ for Mori Girl style, but also works as a cute, everyday dress.

You can choose to line your dress or make it with facings.  The lined version can be made as a reversible dress.  Two looks in one!  This dress also works well in 1960’s prints.  Make it Mod!

This pattern coordinates with other Mori Girl style patterns by KeLibu:

Supplies:

Skirt:

15 ½ inches by 5 ¼ inches of light weight cotton or blends for the skirt body

  • 2 ¼ inches of 45-60 inches of soft mesh or lace fabric for the skirt ruffle. Note that tulle will not work.  You will be cutting a strip the entire width of your fabric, which is why a range of 45-60 inches is specified.  Longer strips will provide more fullness.
  • 15 ½ inches of lace or other trim to go over top of the ruffle. Trim should be minimum 1 ½ inches wide and maximum 2 ½ inches wide.
  • 11 inches of 3/8 inch wide elastic

Reversible Option:

  • 1/3 yard of light weight cotton* as a main fabric
  • 1/3 yard of light weight cotton* as a lining or second main fabric (if making a reversible dress)
  • 12 inches by 5 inches of light weight complementary cotton for the Collar
  • Optional – 6 inches by 5 inches of light weight fusible interfacing
  • 7 inches of hook and loop tape that is 3/8 inch wide OR 5 sets of sew in snaps
  • Optional – 88 inches of ½ inch, single fold bias tape or two self-cut bias strips 44 inches by ½ inch*
  • Optional – 20 ¾ inches of ½ to ¾ inch wide lace to add to the hem
  • Optional – embellishments such as fabric flowers, wooden charms etc.
  • Pinking shears or pinking rotary blade
  • Universal needle
  • Matching thread

Faced Option:

  • 1/3 yard of light weight cotton* as a main fabric
  • 14 x 4 inches of light weight cotton for facing
  • 12 inches by 5 inches of light weight complementary cotton for the Collar
  • Optional – 6 inches by 5 inches of light weight fusible interfacing
  • 4 inches of hook and loop tape that is 3/8 inch wide OR 2-3 sets of sew in snaps
  • Optional – 88 inches of ½ inch, single fold bias tape or two self-cut bias strips 44 inches by ½ inch*
  • Optional – 20 ¾ inches of ½ to ¾ inch wide lace to add to the hem
  • Pinking shears or pinking rotary blade
