Skill level: Easy
These comfy play pants are easily made from 1/3 yard of cotton fabric or lightweight denim and 11 inches of 3/8 inch elastic. (You can also use a fat quarter!). Mix and match your fabrics to create a different look each time. The elastic waistband makes these pants easy for little hands to dress their dolls and the easy construction is perfect for even younger seamstresses to learn to sew.
This pattern was specifically designed and tested on 18 inch soft bodied dolls such as American Girl®. Not all dolls, even of the same brand, are exactly the same size. Be sure to measure your Playground Pants on your own doll as you go along to ensure a perfect fit. My dolls have a waist measurement average of 10 ½ inches. Oh Sew Kat! is not affiliated with American Girl®, Mattel® or any other toy company and no endorsement is implied.

Do you sew? Do you want to? Does your daughter ask you to make new clothes for her dolls? Or would she like to learn herself?
This is where I was with my daughter. She wanted me to make so many things I couldn’t keep the list up! I decided it was time for her to do it herself. (9-11 years old). I created some simple patterns, based on simple designs that would teach her, step by step, how to make them herself. (But do not underestimate the power of a simple design! A new fabric, a shirt underneath, a few buttons on front, a ruffle added…you can create a whole wardrobe and lots of unique looks with just a few basic pattern pieces.) With a few scraps of fabric, and a pattern printed on your home computer, you and your “girl” will be making her dolls into fashionistas!
